This week I learned about what makes a good key word and what makes a bad key word for advertising. I thought it was interesting that in a way, keywords that are inaccurate to the product you are selling are false advertisement. People type in search words expecting the results to be accurate and relevant to the words they searched. If they are not, they are likely to be frustrated and leave your page quickly.
From this weeks activities and discussions I learned that researching keywords is incredibly important before starting an ad campaign. If you don’t take the time to think like your customer and try to be considerate to their needs, your campaign won’t be very successful. It is necessary to know what your customers are going to be searching for, or else your campaign won’t do very well. Too broad of a search term will get people who aren’t actually looking for your product.
I think the google ad words tools have been the most helpful in helping me know what terms are good and which are not. It helps me to get an idea of what people are looking for and helps me get more in the mindset of a customer. Also, pretending I am a customer and looking at other people’s site that are similar to mine has been a great reference as well.
